Narrative & Attention

Attention is an asset—and a liability

Learn how to judge a meme coin narrative, separate organic attention from coordinated promotion, and define measurable catalysts.

Long-form field guidePractical exampleChecklist + FAQs

Short answer

A durable meme coin narrative is simple enough to repeat, flexible enough to remix, and supported by behavior beyond paid promotion. Define the idea in one sentence, identify who cares besides short-term traders, compare social activity with unique onchain participation, and give every catalyst an expiry date and failure condition.

01

Ask why this meme can travel

Strong memes are easy to understand, remix, repeat, and identify with. Test whether the idea survives outside the original account or chat and whether the community creates rather than merely repeats buy language.

02

Separate organic from purchased attention

Watch account age, engagement quality, repeated phrasing, sudden follower bursts, undisclosed sponsorships, coordinated replies, and whether social excitement matches unique onchain participation.

03

Catalysts need an expiry date

A listing, post, trend, or announcement can create attention, but the thesis must state what is expected, by when, and what failure looks like. “Soon” is not a measurable catalyst.

Practical field note

Write the narrative so it can fail

A usable narrative thesis might say: “The meme is spreading beyond the launch account because independent creators are remixing it, unique holders are growing, and a dated event should expand attention.” Then define failure: creation stops, engagement remains concentrated, holder growth stalls, or the event passes without the expected response. The story is now measurable rather than mystical.

Common mistakes

Counting followers as conviction

Follower totals can be purchased, inherited, inactive, or unrelated to the token.

Confusing repetition with creation

Hundreds of identical replies show coordination more readily than cultural depth.

Using undated catalysts

A catalyst without timing can be postponed forever and cannot discipline a thesis.

Field checklist

  • Write the meme in one sentence
  • Identify the actual audience beyond traders
  • Audit influencer and sponsor disclosures
  • Compare social activity with unique holders
  • Put a date and failure condition on catalysts

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

What makes meme coin attention look organic?+

Look for original community creations, varied language, repeat participation, older accounts, discussion beyond price, and growth that appears across more than one channel.

Should social engagement match holder growth?+

Not perfectly, but large persistent gaps deserve investigation. A social spike without broader holders or transactions may reflect promotion rather than durable participation.

When is a catalyst invalid?+

A catalyst is invalid when its stated event, timing, or expected effect fails. Define that condition before the deadline passes so the thesis cannot move indefinitely.
